Recently, I browsed a style manual called The Mac is not a Typewriter by Robin Williams--no, not Mork but a part-time instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, California. She is particularly known for her manuals of style The Mac is Not a Typewriter and The Non-Designer's. The shot is noisy and blurry but I still like it. Yes, I've been a Mac user for a couple of decades, but my generation actually learned to write using a typewriter, not a computer. The Mac is Not a Typewriter, 2nd Edition: Robin Williams. My friend suggested that users of the Mac should only use one space between sentences. While double returns as paragraph spacing, one could argue, is not really a typographic error, to me as an art director, it is both a typographical and visual one. I went to close the door to my daughter's bedroom when I saw her desk and decided to take a photo. Unless you're specifically using a fixed-width font like Courier, one space is plenty between sentences.
